Roof Warranties
Every new Blue Goat roof carries two layers of protection: the manufacturer's coverage on the materials and our own 10-year warranty on the labor. Here's exactly what each one covers.
Every New Roof Has Two Kinds of Coverage
A roof warranty is really two warranties. The manufacturer warranty covers the materials: shingles that crack, curl, or fail early because of a defect. The workmanship warranty covers the installation: a flashing detail done wrong, a nailing pattern that lets shingles lift, a valley that leaks. Plenty of roof problems trace back to how a roof was installed rather than what it was made of, so the workmanship side matters more than most people realize.
Because Blue Goat Roofing holds manufacturer credentials with Owens Corning, CertainTeed, and Malarkey, we can offer extended system warranties that go well past the standard coverage any shingle comes with off the shelf. Here's what each one means for your home.
Extended Warranties We Can Offer
Each of these requires a complete roof system from one manufacturer, installed by a credentialed contractor and registered with the manufacturer.
System Protection & Preferred Protection
As an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, we can offer two of Owens Corning's extended roofing system warranties. Both carry a non-prorated TRU PROtection® period of up to 50 years on qualifying shingles, meaning full coverage for defective materials rather than a shrinking percentage.
Preferred Protection goes a step further and adds workmanship coverage for the first 10 years, backed by Owens Corning itself.
SureStart PLUS Extended Coverage
We've held CertainTeed credentials since 2017. As a ShingleMaster PRO, we can offer SureStart PLUS coverage up to the 4-STAR level when a complete CertainTeed Integrity Roof System is installed on your home.
4-STAR Protection covers materials, labor, tear-off, and disposal for up to 50 years on CertainTeed's lifetime limited warranty shingles. Ask which level fits the shingle you're considering when we come out for your estimate.
Secure Choice Roof System
Every Malarkey shingle and accessory carries Limited Lifetime coverage against manufacturing defects. As a Malarkey Certified Pro, we can also offer extended warranty protection when Malarkey shingles are installed with at least three Malarkey accessories as a complete Secure Choice™ roof system.
Coverage terms, periods, and requirements are set by each manufacturer and vary by product. See the actual warranty document for complete details, limitations, and exclusions.
Our Workmanship Warranty
Every roof we install comes with our 10-year workmanship warranty on labor as standard, separate from anything the manufacturer provides. If something we installed isn't right in that window, we come back and make it right.
Want coverage that lasts as long as you own the house? Lifetime warranty coverage is available for purchase when it's paired with our annual maintenance plan. Regular maintenance is what keeps a roof performing, so the two go together.
Here's the part people overlook: a workmanship warranty is only worth something if the company that wrote it is still around to honor it. Blue Goat Roofing has been working in Boise and The Treasure Valley since 1999. Whoever you hire, ask for the workmanship terms in writing before you sign anything.
What Can Void a Roof Warranty
Most warranty claims that get denied are denied for reasons the homeowner never knew about. The common ones:
- A system warranty that was never registered. Extended system warranties have to be registered with the manufacturer by the credentialed contractor who installed the roof. When you choose an extended system warranty, we register it with the manufacturer for you.
- Mixing brands. System warranties require the qualifying components to come from the same manufacturer as the shingles.
- Poor attic ventilation. Manufacturers expect balanced intake and exhaust ventilation. Heat and moisture trapped in an attic shorten shingle life, and that isn't treated as a material defect.
- Other trades cutting into the roof. Satellite dishes, vents, and especially solar racking installed after the fact can create leaks the roofing warranty won't cover. It's one reason we handle solar panel removal and reinstallation ourselves during a reroof.
- Neglect. Damage from clogged gutters, moss left to grow, or a repair put off too long isn't a manufacturing defect. Our annual maintenance plan is built to catch those things early.

Roof Warranty FAQ
Every new roof carries two layers of coverage: a manufacturer warranty on the materials and our standard 10-year workmanship warranty on the labor, with lifetime coverage available for purchase alongside our annual maintenance plan. Because Blue Goat Roofing is an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, a CertainTeed ShingleMaster PRO, and a Malarkey Certified Pro, we can also offer extended system warranties from all three manufacturers on qualifying complete roof systems.
Yes, on qualifying complete roof systems. Owens Corning's System Protection and Preferred Protection warranties carry a non-prorated TRU PROtection period of up to 50 years on qualifying shingles, and CertainTeed's SureStart PLUS 4-STAR Protection, which we can offer as a ShingleMaster PRO, covers materials, labor, tear-off, and disposal for up to 50 years on lifetime limited warranty shingles. Each program has its own requirements, so ask which one fits your roof when we come out for your free estimate.
Yes. Every roof we install includes our standard 10-year workmanship warranty on labor, and lifetime coverage is available for purchase paired with our annual maintenance plan. On top of that, the Owens Corning Preferred Protection warranty adds workmanship coverage for the first 10 years, backed by Owens Corning itself rather than only by the contractor.
Manufacturer system warranties can generally be transferred to the next owner, but the rules and time limits vary by program and some require notifying the manufacturer. A transferable, registered warranty can be a real selling point, so if you're planning to sell in the next few years, mention it when we come out for your estimate.
Extended system warranties are registered with the manufacturer by the credentialed contractor who installed the roof. When you choose an extended system warranty, Blue Goat Roofing registers it with the manufacturer for you, so you don't have to chase paperwork after the job.
